Anyone else still in the thick of constant illness?

We have a poorly boy once again and I’m getting to the end of my tether!

My son started nursery at 13 months old in June last year. From about August-Dec he was ill every other week. He was off for almost 5 weeks over Christmas with the way my working days worked (I work in the same nursery he goes to but with the older kids, and do 2.5 days a week which is the times he’s in) and barely had one sniffle, and was well right through to mid Feb. Since then he’s been ill every other week again.

In the last 10 months he’s had: 3 sickness bugs, Hand Foot and Mouth, Strep Tonsilitis, and various ‘cold’ viruses with a day or two of high temps, followed by congestion and coughs. we currently have an ear infection and a cold which seem to be running side by side. My husband has also been constantly ill along with him, and I’m ill a bit less but I’ve still had insane sinus infections which I’ve never had before. His room in nursery is always plagued with some virus, and he’s definitely not the only one.

Is anyone else going through this? I am so exhausted and down with it now. I just want him to have a run at being well! I feel so sorry for him!

We've all been portly since the back end of December..... Between flu, sickness bugs, sciatica, more flu, 'colds' (read: the seventh circle of hell) and general crappiness, our house may as well have a black cross painted on the door.

My eldest has had a runny nose and a cough constantly from when she started nursery at 9 months to now at 2.5 years. It's much less intense - she used to cough constantly but now it's just here and there, but she's still got the permanent runny nose, and now she passed everything along to her baby sister so she too is always coughing and sniffly.

Thankfully she doesn't seem to pick up tummy bugs there - just one ever of those - and she rarely gets fevers with her germs. She's also brought home hand foot and mouth once, and roseola once, though the latter only really affected her sister.

@WeeOrcadian We’re exactly the same! Just constantly run down, constantly dealing with someone being ill. My son has Hand Foot and Mouth last week, although apart from the sores he was totally fine, then as soon as I started to think we could maybe do something nice together on Sunday for Mother’s Day, husband came down with some kind of high temp lurgy. That cleared on Monday, son took an ear infection on Tuesday. I cannot cope with this 😭

@CoalCraft i work with kids so know a few that have the constant cough! Does your DD have an inhaler? We have a few kids in nursery who don’t have asthma but do have an inhaler to help with their chronic coughs!

Yep. DS1 has just turned 4 and goes to preschool. He is constantly poorly. In the last few months we’ve had chickenpox, scarlet fever and numerous viruses causing a temperature. And he vomits every time he gets a high temp. In between the bugs he’s got a constant low grade cold and snotty nose/cough. Luckily we haven’t had any stomach bugs, yet. DS2 is 6 months old and also catches the colds and viruses from DS1. Feel stuck in a vicious cycle.

@CandleRigg89 No, no inhaler. As I said it's settled a lot and she only occasionally coughs now, I assume because her immune system has now seen most of the nursery germs. Just gotta wait for her younger sister to get there too.

She does still have permanent runny nose though!

@Moonshine160 - I’m so sorry you’re dealing with it too, but solidarity! Glad to know we’re not alone with it though. I hope your 6 month old escapes the worse of it. It’s extra nerve wracking when they’re so small!

@CoalCraft ah sorry I misread! Glad she’s getting that immune benefit now, fingers crossed! We’re thinking about trying for another this summer so hoping this constant assault just now will benefit us all in future 😅
