Ewww, nits!

Please help!

First time experiencing nits and I'm already wanting to shave everyone's head as I just don't know how to get rid of them.

Two year old has curly mixed race hair, and has come home from nursery scratching her head (we had an email from the manager of a nits outbreak a couple of weeks ago, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised). A quick rummage through her hair and OMG! I'm so freaked out by the sheer amount of eggs, along with the live ones. I purchased 'Full marks' yesterday and used this on her which seems to have eradicated the live ones, and have bought a Nitty Gritty comb today and removed as many eggs as I possibly could, but this was not an easy job given her age and hair type so I definitely haven't got them all out. I'm now doing the treatment on myself as my head itches like mad and I think I can see eggs.

Please reassure me that there is an end in sight! How do I get rid of these pesky critters? The treatment says to repeat in 7 days if needs be, but surely any eggs I've not managed to remove are just going to keep hatching and relaying even more eggs? Does anything effectively kill the eggs? HELP before I honestly just go for the clippers and shave both of our heads!

@Tropicaliyes I always took the clean hair theory to be "not oily." Black hair can be oily from product but white hair is oily when you haven't washed your kids often enough so they aren't clean. You can see it because the hair is slick and clumps- we all knew those families and who was better or worse off than us. And greasy hair in that case also stinks!

So it wasn't about black kids being dirty but the white ones.

I use product now but will always be a little bit greasy kid at heart so never in the scalp. Your tea tree oil idea is a good one, thanks!

@PlainJanePerfect oh no I didn’t mean that you was meaning black people had dirty hair and white people cleaner.. I was just saying growing up in the 90’s it was one of those things that people got into their heads that lice wouldn’t bother black people because they have dirty hair and only went for white people as they had clean hair and lice prefer “clean hair”. Things have moved on a lot since then so you don’t see people coming with that now but it was something they really believed back then🤦🏽‍♀️

they say type 1 & 2 hair are more oily at the roots which is most likely why oil doesn’t work well but the advice to oil the strands instead of the roots. But then again everyone had a different situation going on and I know the clumpy oily hair you mean.. I wonder how they manage to cut that oil when washing their hair because we need some kind of clarifying shampoo just to sort out our overly oily hair or product build up.🤔

your welcome though, I know for sure they don’t survive tea tree oil but it’s just finding a way to incorporate it into a product that can be used in your hair type.

I knew what you meant and that it wasn't at me. I'm sure plenty of people thought that too, unfortunately.

I'm glad seeing all this 90s stuff come back, that it's mostly just the clothing and not the mentality!

It’s good to keep an eye out regularly and if a letter comes out from school check immediately

Full marks kills the eggs as well doesn't it? Unless there are a few different ones, the one I've got says it kills eggs.

All I'll say OP is that I wish headlice was as bad as it gets...

PlainJanePerfect · 22/03/2023 20:44

I think I know what you mean @SpamIAm I never heard of that until I came to the UK and a mummy blogger was talking about them. I'm in complete denial and if I don't speak of it, they won't ever happen.

Kids are so gross 🤢🤢🤢
