Hand foot and mouth

I had a terrible cold over the weekend, my eldest caught it and was unwell too. He isn't 100% but definitely on the mend but he's randomly got a few spots around his mouth and on his face. He never gets spots.
Hands and feet clear.
His tongue has a few raise spots but not sure if that's normal for him.

His younger sibling now coming down with it.

Is this likely hand foot and mouth or just a. Virus?
I had no spots!

Could be, the spots tend to come after the feeling rotten bit. My son had it and only got spots on his knees. Have you checked palms?

He's clear everywhere apart from around his mouth where he has between 5-8 spots!
He just never gets spots like this when run down!

I had HFM and was quite mild so keep a close eye. I had spots on my hands and feet but not face so it's possible to not get them everywhere.

My DD had HFM not to long ago and it started with spots around her mouth - a few days later the spots appeared on her hands and feet but thankfully she didn’t have it too bad.

I don’t mean this to sound as grumpy as it probably does, but does it matter if it’s HFM?

This morning he woke up with a big cold soar so I wonder if that's just what these other spots are?

I suppose it doesn't really matter what it is but it's just good to know for future reference I guess!

I just asked as I know some people think that you can’t attend childcare/school with HFM. Of course if they are unwell with it then that’s different.

So it turns out it's impetigo!
I had a go app this morning and he's on antibiotics. It seems to had got a lot worse today. I feel so guilty leaving it this long... I just thought it was a virus!
Pretty spooked with reading how contagious it is though!
Has anyone ever had a child have it and not spread throughout the house 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
