I've worked out childcare would be 1700 for both children which is more than I'll earn but I want to get out of the house for my own sanity but I can't see a way out

Are you a line parent? If not, you need to look at the whole family income and see childcare as not just > or < your salary.

There are significant benefits to working, and "losing money" working is short term. Your children's childcare will cost less as they grow, your income (and pension pot!) will increase as the childcare bill decreases.

If you are a lone parent, there are benefit top ups that aim to cover up to 85% of the bill to help.

Trouble is I don't have that money to start with

Has your DD been in nursery already? And how long until she's three and gets the 30 free hours? How much out of pocket will you be each month?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/03/2023 16:35

So are you both working currently? Is there two incomes coming jn now?
