Breastfeeding - drinking alcohol

Hi everyone.
So my baby is 2 weeks old and last night her dad watched her and I had about a bottle and a half of wine with some friends. I'm home now and back with baby, but she has a horrible cold that I think she must of gotten from my other child. She's coping okay but very bunged up. Earlier this week I decided to stop breastfeeding as it wasn't going to well but now she's sick I want to be able to breastfeed her a little and I'm still producing loads of milk. I had my last drink at about 1am last night. I feel fine in myself. Would it be safe to breastfeed her now or should I wait until later on today ??

Fine now

but bloody hell… you had 1.5 bottles last night to yourself? You must feel horrific today

Surprisingly I feel fine. Had loads of water before I went to bed though

It's absolutely fine. You don't need to wait

That is a genuinely a lot to drink OP. And actually concerning that not effected by it. Was that first time you’ve drunk for months? I know not crux of your thread, but was there a reason why you binge drank last night?

Yeah it was the first time I drank since founding out I was pregnant. I definitely went overboard but it was over the space of a good 6 hours. Like I said I made sure to drink loads of water last night to avoid a hangover. It did enjoy myself though but I can't say I'll be doing that again for a long while, I do feel tired today.

Oh for Christ sake. She indulged in a bit of drink with some friends. I could happily put that away over the space of a night out and be fine on the night and fine the next day. OP came here to ask a perfectly reasonable question, not to be chastised for having a merry night out.

You should be fine to feed now and breast milk will help her clear her cold faster as your milk will contain antibodies. It might be harder for her to feed while stuffy but perseve and she should feel better soon (also reduces the risk of it turning into a chest infection)

Also just the point out breastfeeding never goes well in the first few weeks, babies are uncoordinated and take time to learn to latch well consistently, it also bloody hurts until your nappies toughen up

If you do want to continue breastfeeding afterwards seek help to do so as it sounds like you have a good supply 😊
