Ear infection again? What do I do?

My 4 year old child screamed one night in ear pain, settled with some nurofen and the next morning he had discharge coming from his ear but no pain anymore. I sent an e-consult and a picture of his ear and the doctor didn’t seem him but prescribed anti biotics which seem to clear it up.

however, we are away in the Lake District and last night he started screaming in pain again which settled with nurofen and now there’s discharged in his ear this morning. He seems fine in himself. What do I do? Ring 111? Wait until Monday to contact the doctor? Is it an infection again?

he’s hardly ever had ear infection let alone two in a space of two weeks. He’s had grommets inserted last June due to adenoids but don’t know if they are still in there. Help 😣

Yes you need a doctor again.

It could be the first antibiotics did not 100% clear it up so it recurred.

He needs his ear to be physically looked at. I've had a perforated eardrum which had discharge for months and months

It could just be an infection flaring back up again, but it needs to be looked at. They can't correctly diagnose ear pain over the phone (like a doctor tried with me the other month, causing deafness and a whole saga). Ear pain itself is very bad and needs to be addressed rather than prolonged by incorrect diagnosis
