My dd is 17 months and came out with this horrible rash this morning all over her body (images attached) they have gotten worse throughout the day and she’s not very happy with it! We’ve been to the drs this afternoon who have said they think it’s a delayed reaction to the penicillin she was on recently and just prescribed antihistamine. I just have a weird feeling it’s something else as she’s been on penicillin a few times and this has never happened. The antihistamines have done nothing so far (6hrs later). I’m just a worried mum. Has anyone has similar before? If it’s any worse in the morning I’ll be taking her back! This is also all over her face and everywhere on her body!

Is she otherwise well in herself ?
can she have more antihistamine? If it was hives or an allergic reaction I’d expect to see an improvement after that
penicillin can cause a rash
it goes without saying for such a young child call 111 for more medical advice if you don’t think it can wait until your GP re opens

My 4 year old had a similar thing recently. I put it down to different washing powder but interestingly she’d just finished a course of amoxicillin. The GP never suggested the amoxicillin as a source though.

Anyway the hives got worse before they got better. We just did had max dose of piriton and it had to run its course. It was all over her body and face too.

But keep in touch with your GP. It’s more worrying when they are younger but try not to worry. Hives is one of those that looks worse than it is.

Hi @Anon1324

My son has come out in similar, just finished antibiotics, did you ever find out what it was and did your DD recover ok?
