First time mum, LG 5 months next week. Except for week 1, she's been exclusively formula fed

My question is, for other exclusively formula fed babes, how often are they pooping?!

She tends to go, maybe, once every 4 to 5 days. But builds to the point where she really struggles. Then sometimes will go again the day after. But then another big gap! She's struggled with wind and such from day 1 really and has dentinox with every feed. Would love to get her off this and help her with normal, more comfortable movements x

Have you tried her with a comfort milk @LouLouB1987? Was she any better on that?

Bree82 · 09/03/2023 16:02

When my LO had struggles and we didn’t know what it was, tried several things. Anyway one day the brand of formula we usually bought was out of stock so we got a different brand and the struggles stopped!! Anyway I’ve met other mums who said switching brands helped.
it might not as everyone is different but worth a thought if nothing else works.. ?

I would 2nd comfort milk.
Both my kids struggled to poo and comfort milk massively helped.
I switched them both back to normal formula when I weaned them.

My formula fed baby poops once or twice a day but I remember her older sister (also formula fed) having phases where she'd go a few days without pooping. I used to give her a tummy massage after her bath and that usually got things moving!

My baby used to only poop once every 3/4 days from birth (formula fed). For first couple months would only poop after a tummy massage! Then long story short we realise he has CMPA (not diagnosed because of the pooping bit because of other symptoms) so we changed to the cows milk free prescribed formula and now he goes like clockwork every morning. Apparently constipation is a side effect of having CMPA.Not saying your baby is likely to have CMPA though but just wanted to share. I would highly recommend looking on YouTube for the I love you tummy massage for babies. It honestly works wonders I couldn't believe it the first time I did it lol

Thanks all. We did try comfort milk in the early weeks but she didn't seem to get on with it very well! I guess I could try it again or even look in to a different formula. We do some massage and she is a very active bubba, gets her wind out ok. I guess I was hoping by now that her digestive system would of progressed a bit to help

Never though of an intolerance or allergy so something to consider! X

Mine was also pooping every 4-5 days when on Aptimal. When she was getting uncomfortable we changed the brand to Kendamil and she started pooping every day which continued until weaning when she started getting constipated again.

Stop saying poop! You sound like you're 5 years old.

Is that really all you can bring to this conversation?

OP - does she sip water? I found that helped mine a lot

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 10/03/2023 07:29

Yes! It really annoys me. Do you actually say that word in real life?

PritiPatelsMaker · 10/03/2023 10:03

Agree with the PP who suggested it might be an allergy, possibly CMPA. Wind and constipation are definitely signs.

Have a read of this article from Allergy UK and see what you think Flowers

LouLouB1987 · 12/03/2023 18:50

@nellyelloe we have just started to try the water sipping and we've had another POOP today!! Possibly coincidence but can't harm

@LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble thanks for the helpful input... oh no wait, you literally just came on to grumble at how a word has been typed?! First time mum needing some genuine advice, and here you are 👏🏻 👏🏻 well done 🥱

My four month great Grandson formula fed is only pooing every ten days. He's not constipated when he does go. Any advice?
