Babbling - when?

Hello everyone

when did your baby begin to babble? Not so much the cooing “oooh” and “ahhh” but more like “gagaga” or “mamama” I’ve read 4 months but that seems quite early? Thanks x

Most babies start babbling (consonant sounds) from around 6 months. Normally ba-ba, da-da. More complex babbling (that sounds like an unintelligible language) is closer to nine to twelve months.

My 6 month old started babbling a few weeks ago. He says “ba ba ba” only, but is straining to produce more sounds so might master “da” next.

My firstborn took longer to start babbling, but now has very good vocabulary.

I think nursery rhymes help a lot, and any reading, singing and conversation around the baby.

4 months seems super early but then again my DD didn’t started babbling until just after her 1st birthday!

Hi how is your dd doing now.. When started to speak? And copy gestures or understanding?

CoalCraft · 11/05/2023 08:49

My second was nearly seven months when she started saying "ma-ma-ma" etc. Don't really remember with my first - she did do it but not very much compared to her babbly sister.

Ezhildeepa · 11/05/2023 08:55

Hi if after one year how did the speech improve and how about gestures and understanding

Gibshername · 13/05/2023 11:27

@Ezhildeepa hey! She’s 6 months now, definitely making more noises but still not really saying “mama, dada” etc yet but think she’s on the way. Still quite early. Think she’s on the way to copying gestures as well but she’s only just turned 6 months so still plenty of time :)
