Cellulitis in thumb?

Hi all

My toddler seems to have a bit of an infected nail on his thumb however it has now gone red and inflamed surrounding this and the redness has spread from just the nail to the top of his thumb. I'm worried it could be cellulitis. Should I take him to A&E for antibiotics?

For reference I had the same thing last year and it did end up being cellulitis - I was fine at first and then ended up being rushed to hospital extremely poorly, so I may be overthinking things for my son.

Any advice? Thanks

It's also hot to touch. He keeps crying and complaining about it but otherwise seems well in himself, but like I said I went downhill very fast so just unsure on what to think. It's almost impossible to get a GP appointment but will try tomorrow if needed.

Hi Op
It's called a paronychia.
Bath it in warm salty water.
If it gets bigger or develops a pustular head, see GP Monday x
