3rd child - sibling dynamic?

What is the dynamic like between your kids and how was it affected by DC3?

We are back and forth about having a third (common dilemma on mumsnet I know!). DC1 is nearly 5 and DC2 is 2.5 (different sexes). They olay together SO nicely and adore each other (90% of the time). Are very different but very complementary personalities. I’m wondering whether a third would be more of the same or potentially disruptive? Age gap would be likely around DC1 6, DC2 3.5 when DC3 born.

Obviouslh no way of knowing but interested in others’ experiences.

As you say, there is no way of knowing! I have a bigger age gap between my second and third, they absolutely adore their baby sibling, and there is very little jealously because of the age gap. You might find pangs if jealousy from your middle child as, try as you might, the baby will demand your physical attention. I wouldn’t change mine for the world. 3 is the magic number for us. Good luck xx

I have 3dcs, 2.5 years between each sibling. They are teens and get on brilliantly. They always have done. I think the great dynamic between the older two, set the tone for the relationship with the youngest..

That’s so nice to hear @Neolara - would love that to be the case.

DH has similar sibling set up but eldest 2 are boys and youngest is a girl and I think she felt a bit left out. Hopefully wouldn’t happen in our case as they are already mixed sex.

@AmIThatMam DC1 was very jealous when DC2 was born (during covid so we were all trapped at home) but thankfully it wore off as she got older (and clearly adored him!).
