Is this 6 weeks growth spurt?!

Hi all,

My dd is 5w2d old and all of a sudden her behaviour has changed today.

Since beginning, she is a very calm and settled baby. Not much fussing and not very clingy (but she does enjoy an extra cuddle or two if given, but not too fussy if isn't).

She is breastfed; expressed milk via bottle feeds because she still can't latch properly. She feeds well and very content after feeds and goes back to sleep happily without being held.

But today all of a sudden, the coin has flipped and she has become so very clingy and fussy; she has been in either mine/dh's arms whole day! And has refused all her daytime naps despite being tired 🤯

But otherwise she seems alright - feeding well, no fever, good number of wet and dirty nappies.

One of my friend mentioned it could be the 6 week growth spurt and she will go back to her normal self soonish 😬

Can these changes happen during growth spurt?

First time mum here and my Husband has gone back to work after paternity leave And I am dreading Monday as I will be on my own at home🙁 I am stumped as such what's happening. Any help appreciated🙁

Hi OP,

I formula fed my DD, however I remember like it was yesterday that between 5-7 weeks were absolute hell because she has acid reflux. We tried infacol and that wasn’t great. Took her to the GP and she’s been on gaviscon sachets ever since. Honestly she went back to her little half settled self after that.

I did mention it to the health visitor but found they weren’t that helpful and just went straight to my GP.

Always worth making an appointment just incase.

When my son had that growth spurt, I literally wasn't able to set him down for 3 days. After that he was his normal chilled out self again

@Bigmummaof2 my lo has already been diagnosed with reflux and she is on omeprazole once a day😬 everything seemed to be settling for a couple of days and suddenly this has hit us.. and we are at the end of our wits as to what is happening!

Being first time parents is so confusing!

@DragonbornMum that's rough😢 I hope that's what is happening with my lo too... And hope there's light at the end of the tunnel🙏

Hi
Congratulations on your new baby x
Just seen you said she's on omeprezol? How long has she been on it? With omeprezol you hit an acid battle. So things will get worse before they start getting better. We went through about a week of it and then week 4 it was a massive change, for better. Have they checked tongue tie, cmpa? Reflux is quite often a symptom of those things.

@Tbird5 thank you🤗 baby has been checked for tongue tie and she doesn't have one. She was preterm and hence had difficulty latching; which is getting better with each day - but not there yet!

We started omeprazole a week ago but she got constipated and was straining a lot after day 4; so haven't given it for two days now, as our GP suggested to give it a rest for a few days.

No idea about cmpa though.. I will bring this up with the GP in our 6 week check up. Thank you for your advice🤗
