Baby will only sleep on his side -worried about SIDS

Baby is 9 months old. In the last few weeks when I put him down to sleep on his back he always rolls over on his side and sleeps on his side. I always try to put him back on his back, sometimes he’ll stay on his back for a bit sometimes not. He normally has 2 naps during the day. In the day I can roll him back on his back but at night when I check on him (sometimes I only wake up twice at night because I’m so tired myself) I put him on his back, I fall asleep myself and I don’t wake up for a few hours.

I’m worried about SIDS.

Any advice? Thank you in advance 👍🏻

I think once they can roll and move themselves around you can stop worrying about it. From about 5 months my daughter used to roll on to her front as soon as I lay her down (still does it now at 4!) other than stay up all night flipping her back, I couldn’t do anything about it. I think they laying on back thing is most important before they can roll.

Once they can get themselves into the position it's fine to leave them.

yes, once they can roll they can move themselves out of trouble, so you don't need to worry about putting them down on their backs.

9 months old! Of course they can sleep on their side as presumably they can move well and roll both sides. Don't worry!

The guidance is that once they can roll by themselves, let them sleep however they like. Just make sure his sleeping space is clear or any toys or blankets and use safe sleeping bags.

My son is also 9 months old and always rolls straight onto his side when he gets put in bed, unless he's completely knocked out then he'll just stay on his back. I always thought if they put themselves into that position then its not a worry, although I did worry when he first started doing it about a month ago.

Just to reassure you though, he is definitely not a front sleeper, he's rolled onto his front before in the middle of the night and started crying, I've had to go in and roll him back over and most of the time he's straight back to sleep. I imagine most babies are the same, if they roll into a position they don't like they'll definitely let you know.
