Hello,

im a FTM and struggling of ways to entertain my daughter when she’s awake. We play with toys as much as we can but feel she gets bored after 5 mins and wants picking up. We do tummy time, etc but same thing. Any other entertainment ideas? Trying to avoid using the tv too much x

4 month old doesn't really need entertaining.
Take advantage of this time and do what you find entertaining for yourself.Just keep her close (in e.g. baby bouncer) and let her watch you do daily activities. Sling is also good idea, you can take her for walks, to café etc.

I take mine with me to see friends, on walks, just wherever I fancy. If you have a local head start/childrens centre they might have free or cheap classes. My dd only does 10-15 mins of playtime at a time as gets bored too. I think it’s quite normal at that age.

Same! I have a 4 month old and struggle with this. To some extent he will just watch me do chores and daily activities etc but not all day. I have to get out the house daily or I lose my mind. Today I'm ill so haven't been able to and he's had several meltdowns and not napped well.

Some things I do, he has wrist rattles which Velcro around his wrists. Now he's discovered his hands he loves them! Keeps him entertained for 15 minutes.

Nursery rhymes and movements I've learnt from baby sensory class. Do the okey cokey with them. Hold them and do the actions. For the 'ooohhhhh the Oakey cokey' bit fly him like an aeroplane.

Row row the boat - have him lay on his mat put his feet together so he kind of looks like a frog and gently rock him side to side whilst singing it. Apparently it helps them with rolling too.

Any baby Einstein toys tbh I know they are loud and daft but he loves them.

talk to her, sing to her, take her out, and about - lots of eye contact, and chat

4 months here too.

We go out and see family/friends
She people watches alot
She has a car/stroller and a bouncer
No playing with toys yet
We go for walks
Lots of baby gurgle conversations
Snuggly naps
Hates it when the car stops. Lol

Do you play any instruments? I would play and sing to mine at that age. Even if you don't get a baby xylophone or something and learn a few nursery rhymes

Crumbs, a four month old is prime age for doing whatever you want 😀

Go for a walk, have a coffee, cinema, museum, baby friendly exercise class…the world is your oyster. They don’t want entertainment- save that for toddlers - they want you. You emptying the dishwasher is like broadway theatre tix to them!

@Scotinoz thank u lolll I have been warned a fair few times that the toddler stage is the worst 😂
