How long does the daddy phase last?

Hi

My daughter who is 2 started the daddy phase about 6 months ago (just before she turned 2) and it’s still going strong. I was wondering has anyone else experienced it and does it ever end??

Before then she probably had a slight preference for me but now it’s nearly always daddy she will run to or pick and I often get told to go away. I’m not sure how to react when she tells me to go away - I’ve tried ignoring it, other times I’ve told her that makes me sad and I’ve also tried acknowledging how much she loves her dad. None have any effect.

What gets me down is I spend quality time playing with her pretty much every day like hiding, playing catch or playing doctors, Lego etc. We also share ‘childcare’ tasks pretty evenly, taking it in turns to do morning wake ups and bed time. On average I probably spend slightly more time with her as I have a day off a week.

Im just worried it’ll never end and also that it’ll get worse as we have a new baby on the way in May…. I didn’t take it personally to begin with but it’s jsut been going on so long

Thanks

Out middle child was like this (girl). It was tough but I stuck it out and she now swings between us both as her favourite. She was daddy mad until about 5 I'm afraid.

He always said its because she's just like me and so it's no wonder she gets in with him so well. She loves you muchly tooo, that's for sure.
