Single mums - is it better to working PT or FT?

Hi everyone

im a single mum of a 4 month old girl. I am on maternity leave at the minute and live with parents. I’ve never lived on my own before. Working FT, I earn around 28k a year.

my question is, would I be better off working part time and what kind of government assistance could I get? My worry with full time is less government help and nursery fees. Advice please? I want to move out also so I am aiming this question really at single mums who live alone (with their kids of course)

disclaimer - I’ve always worked since leaving school over 10 years ago so working part time is def nothing to do with being lazy. Also never claimed help in my life. I just want to be the best off financially as I can be. Please - no judgements, I’m asking for help x

For me the perfect balance was 3 days. But the best thing to do is to put the figures in to calculators for Universal Credit. This will help you decide which option is best as it will be different for everyone.
