We have been potty training our 2 1/2 year old boy the last two weeks, and it has been going fairly well. He wears normal underpants at home, but a nappy at night. It is usually dry in the morning, and we go to toilet before we get dressed and go down for breakfast. He will make another big wee after breakfast. I put nappies on for going outside (if I am going to be away for more than one hour) and when we are going to preschool because they dont want to potty train him because he put his hand in the nappy the other week and showd everybody his dirty hands after. (Not surprised, they dont ever change his nappy, so gets a sore bum, clever ploy by him to get them to change him)

The last few days he has done most his poos in his underpants, and will say I have made a poo. Previously, he would say " I make POO!" and we would dash for the potty and he would manage to keep it in till he was on the potty.

I gave up today, as I threw away 3 pairs of underpants yesterday, and could face no more. (Though, today is a bad day for many other reasons too, as I just dont have the energy as DS1 is ill)

How can I do it better and make him poo on the potty rather than just wee?

It sounds like a nightmare, but please don't give up.

Perhaps he wants attention as your DS1 is ill, and I assume, getting more?

I would personally have words with the preschool as they shouldn't allow him to stay dirty for long enough for that to happen, iyswim?

firstly preschool should be encouraging him not refusing to help.

Can you bring in some treats for pooing on potty/loo? Magazines sweets cars etc for the first 2 days? Would assume after that he would be using it anyway and just reduce the prize to stickers/a sweet

They dont think he is ready, because he does not tell them he needs to go. But they dont even notice that he has a dirty nappy and change it! Yet they complain that they cant lock up becuase there we are changing his nappy before going!
