Washing plastic pants/wraps

How often and how do you wash plastic pants/wraps? My MIL is horrified I don't use a clean pair of plastic pants at each nappy change, but I don't think it's neccessary everytime particularly with just a wet nappy, unless they're dirty imo. I used to put them in with the nappies, but have found that prolonged 60 degree washes tends to shorten their life, so now I prefer to hand wash them in the sink just with warm soapy water. What does everyone else do/think?

I have to say I just bung them in with the nappies, but only wash at 40. Now DS2 is bigger I only use one wrap during the day and one at night, unless the wrap has been soiled.

I have always been one for day, one for night. I wash with the nappies at 40 too.

Some people have 2 on the go and alternate at each change to give it a chance to air out

When you say you only use one during the day, I assume you mean it will last several nappy changes (wet or dirty), unless soiled? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!

Yes that's right, will only change the wrap if it's soaking or has caught escaping poo

Oh yes, I only change mine if they are soaked through or dirty. I chuck them in the nappy bucket to wash with the nappies but if I'm running low on wraps and they are onlyy wet I just wash them in the sink. I wash everything at 40C.

Can't imagine the extra expense if you needed a new wrap for each new nappy would double the cost of cloth for sure.

If I were you I would continue to horrify your MIL - surely thats what we have MILs for?
