Did/does anyone work evenings with small children?

So I've recently accepted a new job offer. It's part time, 20-25 hours a week but I will be required to work 1 or 2 evening/night shifts a week (5pm - 1:30am), and one weekend day (9am - 3pm). Luckily I have a very short commute so on nights I will be home by 1:45am, and these night shifts will not be back to back.

My partner works earlies, 6am - 2pm, 5 days a week. We have 2 DC who are 4 and 9 months. Eldest isn't in school yet but will be come September. They are both in nursery The plan is for me to work, come home and go to bed around 2am, sleep until kids get up which is normally around 6am (DH leaves for work at 5:30), drop kids off at nursery and then come home and sleep for another 4-5 hours. DH will do nursery pick up. On the days I'm not working we'll try to stick to regular routine, going to bed when DH does etc.

All sounds good in theory but obviously reality may be different! Did anyone else work a similar shift pattern with young kids? How did it work out?
