The joys of nursery, I think there's a new virus every week at the moment!

I have a 2.5 year old and a newborn who is nearly 4 weeks.

Both are currently ill with a cold/cough.
Please let me know your remedies to help them sleep/feel better!!

Are humidifiers worth buying? I have the calpol plug in but not sure it really helps.

Following because DD has her second cold in as many weeks! We don't think the calpol plug in works very well either. Congratulations on your newborn - hope you manage to enjoy the time together virus free v soon x

@dkedm15 thank you :) I've actually just ordered the Vicks humidifier in the hope it may help my toddlers cough! The amount of colds he has I think it might come in useful. He always ends up being sick at night time when he has a cough. Fingers crossed! X

@Emily29 oh bless him!!! It's horrible when they're poorly isn't it, nights are definitely worse for us too. Hope the Vicks works for you!! X

Calpol for toddler, snuffle baby in warm water for baby, coffee / wine for you lol.

If you're breastfeeding you can also express some milk to give to your toddler in a cup. It will contain your immune response to the cold so will help give him a boost.

I use a humidifier worh baby olbus oil for toddler and then vicks on her chest and feet, seems to work well. However I have read not to use olbus oil for babies.

Buy some good quality onions and cut them in four to spend the night in their bedrooms. It stinks a bit but really works against coughing. You can look it up.

I have a 2 year old and 5 month old who would get something every other week.

Giving my 2 year old breast milk really sped up her recovery. I'd express in the morning and give her the bottle every night before bed.

I used baby vicks on DD2 which really helped with the snuffles. We used to bedshare and she was on my boob almost all night which kept her asleep.

Also baby massage. When I applied the vicks I would massage her chest to try clear up any congestion.

My mum told me to apply it to the soles of her feet as well, but I don't know if that made a difference. I was willing to do anything to get them better!

I did the onion trick but it didn't work for us.

Sterimar is great stuff! The only cold ‘remedy’ for kids that actually seems to work.

Thank you for all the suggestions :)
