Baby with chickenpox

DD 3yo came down with chickenpox 3 days ago. She's not been much bothered by it and looks spots are already scabbing over. I'm wondering if DS 7mo has caught it. He has no spots but refuses to be put down, is off his food, is as white as a sheet on account of sleeping terribly last night and has been very grumpy for the past few days. We've all had a terrible cold/cough that's going into its 2nd week and I think he's expecting his 3rd tooth any day now. His symptoms seem more than teething but I'm really not sure. Has anyone else had a baby with chicken pox? Does it make them ill? I'm a bit worried about him...

I think it's just the pile on of everything - cold, teething, generally unwell household etc.

Mine had it together too, dc1 was 3y2m and dc2 was 4m. We just kept him slathered in lotions and lots of time just spent in his nappy. He was easier to manage than the 3yo for sure!

So I'd say it's probably the other stuff having the mist effect on his mood. Not long now and you'll be out the woods.

I would be very surprised if he isn't coming down with it tbh.

Yep it'll probably be in him and the spots will appear soon.

My 3 year old was extremely ill with CP. My 7 month old caught it from him but wasn't as poorly.

Is it normal for them to have a bad cold with cp? This one started a week before DD broke out. It just seems a bit overwhelming atm. I can see DS top tooth under his gum. He won't be put down and DD is demanding 1 on 1 attention. This is so hard!

@Mamabear04 did they have CP in end? DD has been exposed to a case in nursery last Thursday and has had a cold over weekend and irriatable, waking early etc. Appetite seems fine. I've a head cold now and wondering if she just has a cold or it's the start of CP.

When my second was 6 months old, his sibling got chicken pox and he then got it 3 weeks later. We checked with doctor and gave him a half dose piriton as he couldn’t sleep for the itchiness. It did nearly break me, I was so tired. I just keep telling myself - this time will pass. All the best! My DH made us picnic lunches before he went to work and we sat in the lounge and cuddled and did nothing else for a week.

@WildFeathers did either of yours have cold symptoms before the rash?

BTW chicken pox doesn't necessarily give immunity if you have it as a baby - I think 2 years ish was the point where it does. So having it now doesn't necessarily mean they've had it and won't again.

My DS was very sick and nearly died with chicken pox (got a second infection at the same time and developed sepsis) - I think there's a very strong case for vaccinating DC.

@fearfuloffluff I'm sorry to hear that happened. My brother had it twice. My question wasn't about immunity but whether her cold symptoms did in fact turn in CP.

The eldest did have a cold before he got the CP but I didn’t think it was related. He was unwell and grizzly for a couple of days before spots appeared as was our second one.
