7 year old too young for a crush?

My 7 year old son is obsessed with a girl from his karate club. Thing is, she's 14!

She calls him "cool" and always goes on about how cute he is and calls him a cool dude etc and he really takes it to heart and everytime I buy him new clothes his first question is "Do you think Jasmine will like it?" or he'll see something in a shop and say "oh Jasmine would love that!" etc!

He's now taken to wearing black clothes as much as possible as she's "emo" and he's decided he is too lol

I think its really sweet, she doesnt realise the effect she has on him but DH insists that he has a proper crush on her, surely its more like admiration for an older kid? He's too young for a crush isnt he?

Oh and he wont let me get his hair cut as "Jasmine likes it long" lol

Well I'd call it a crush but I wouldn't say he necessarily fancies her - just looks to her and likes her approval. Bless him. So long as she doesn't do anything you wouldn't want him to emulate, not a problem, IMHO.

It's a phase. It will pass. But in the meantime, surely it beats a pokemon card obsession?

My ds was deeply in love with a TA when he was in Reception. He still (he's now 6) goes completely "unnecessary" whenever he meets a tall blonde woman! Quite normal IMHO!

My 5 year old DS has a crush. He goes all soppy at the mention of her name!

nutcracker · 09/02/2008 22:03

Unfortunatly he is Clary, but at least it makes parents evenings a bit more entertaining this year

DS (3) saw a Bratz doll the other day and, completely mesmerised by the full lips, began to pucker up! He now ?loves Andie??? (He is borrowing the doll)

Definitely not too young! How sweet!

I had crushes as far back as I can remember!

My 4yo DS is suddenly girl obsessed! Ever since he was tiny he's a had a girl for a best friend. Her mum and I are best friends and the two of them were born days apart and went to the same childminder and now the same nursery. When she's away he misses her terribly and pretends to have very long conversations on the phone with her.

He's also, for a while now and a 'crush' on one of his 6yo sister's friends. He always desperately wants to join in when this one particular girl comes to play (she is very pretty - huge blue eyes!) and wants to stay when DD goes to her house.

This was all pretty much the norm until the last few weeks when he's actually started kissing and hugging several of the girls and saying he wants to marry them LOL! He caused a punch-up (not literally) at nursery between his BF and another girl who both wanted him to play with THEM. One girl's mum came up to me and suggested we get to know each other better as she understands we are going to be in-laws. And even at football - the most unlikely of places - he's zeroed in on the only girl out of 30 boys and insisted she be on his team so he can hug her when he scores a goal.

I really don't know what's going on in that little brain of his! Very amusing though.
