7 month old GROWLING at me! What?!

My son is 7&1/2 months old & over the past couple of days has started what i can only describe as ‘growling’ at us! It’s in a playful back & forth conversation kind of way, but there are definitely no signs of ‘baba mama dada yaya’ yet. Just loud throaty growls & blowing raspberries when he talks to us

He sometimes growls so ferociously his entire face goes red & he ends up coughing! Is this behaviour i should be encouraging (i am currently growling back at him lol) to bring on his speech, or will it damage his throat?!

thanks x

Sounds adorable. My only advice is to make sure you get it on video, in future when it crops up in your memories it'll make you laugh every time Grin

I'm sure he's just experimenting with the sound, leave him to it.

Have fun

Sounds hilarious! You have a baby with a sense of sound and humour !! They could grow up to be a singer in a heavy metal band 😂

Awww, I had a growly baby too! I thought it was adorable. Had absolutely no effect on milestones for talking, enjoy it while it lasts!

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 23/02/2023 20:18

They do that sometimes, you've got yourself a little growler 😁 enjoy it, it's super cute while it lasts x

Well, that sounds ridiculously cute!

Don't forget to video it so you can look back on it one day!

Thank goodness someone else’s baby is also growling! Mine has just started doing this and the raspberries!

The raspberries are very cute and funny but the growling was concerning! Now not so much since finding this thread 😊 thanks OP! Lets embrace the growling for now 😂

Dontwanttodothis22 · 23/02/2023 20:24

My 7 month old roars at me, and also goes red in the face while he does it. He has also learnt to fake cough, which is excellent just after a pandemic 🙄😂

CatchHimDerry · 23/02/2023 20:26

Mine did the raspberries around this time, I found it hilarious and have a few great videos!

started doing the baba mama dada around 8 months x

Getthefiregoing · 23/02/2023 20:27

Mine did this too Grin coupled with dramatic fake coughing. He's 17 months now and still showing a very silly sense of humour. Definitely join in with the silly noises. They love the fun and mischief of it!

Willowtre1 · 23/02/2023 20:39

This makes me want another baby! Nothing else ever has, it sounds so cute!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/02/2023 20:47

Yeah DD1 did this .... A-grrrrr

She was so pleased with herself, she did it endlessly at 3am!

DragonbornMum · 23/02/2023 21:09

Mine did this! He was just making a noise. The novelty will wear off. Enjoy!

Crostimosti · 23/02/2023 21:53

My son was a growler and it was very funny! Also an ardent raspberry blower and screecher. He learnt to fake cough when he was a baby to get my attention (not that it was needed!) but quickly worked out Mummy moved fastest when he coughed :)

Still got a cheeky sense if humour at 2, tonight when falling asleep he rolled over to me, put his face next to mine and started making snoring noises while giggling!

Magicfairycake · 24/02/2023 13:36

My 9 month old spends most his day crawling around growling. My 2 year old hasn’t started joining in. They both find it very funny and end up laughing together. I have no idea what’s going on but as long as they are happy!
