Is there a word for when babies are dozing lightly and suspiciously at your boob…

… and every time you try and remove it they wake up, furious?

It doesn’t look very restful but mine can do it for hours. Surely there is a word for it in at least some cultures? The Germans?

According to google translate the German for Suspicious Milk Slee is Verdächtiger Milchshleim. Sounds legit doesn’t it?

Oh god yeah the amount of time I spent on the sofa with ds1 was not funny. I got really good at making sure all my needs were met within a half metre radius before I sat down to feed.

Ds2 got a dummy.

BertieBotts · 23/02/2023 12:55

Milchschleim would be milk mucus, Milchschlaf would be milk sleep.

Sadly I am not aware of a handy German word for this Grin

Thank you @BertieBotts ! Much better than google translate 😂 I am disappointed in the Germans on this one. I bet other cultures have done it. But my solitary French GCSE will not allow me to investigate further.

I call it "milk dodoing" because she's using my milk as a dodo (dummy). It's a well-known phrase in our house and both kids have done this.

fairgame84 · 23/02/2023 13:01

Human dummy is what I used to say when DD did this.

bumgripes · 23/02/2023 13:06

“Mummy prison”, that’s another one

Currently trapped doing this exact thing! I call it nipple noshing 🤣 I remember saying that out loud to a midwife with my first as well 🫣

derryrose1980 · 23/02/2023 13:32

I called it grazing when my wee one did it. And then introduced a dummy as she was just using me as one.

BiasedBinding · 23/02/2023 13:35

I loved it when mine did this. With my first I could read for hours like that

birdglasspen · 23/02/2023 14:08

not a fan of mixing feeding with sleeping once baby is a few months old. Wake, feed, be awake, sleep, wake feed…and so it goes so not stuck with a baby 24/7 who could be in a pram or cot…

ScrambledSmegs · 23/02/2023 14:16

The worrying thing is that 10 years later you'll open a thread like this one and get all nostalgic about the times you couldn't move because the baby was asleep on you.

My PLB is still as possessive of me now as she was then. It's quite amazing being the centre of someone's world and I'm grateful to have had that experience for so long.

icclemunchy · 23/02/2023 14:18

Everyone around me seem to call it using me as a dummy. Which baffled me because a dummy is a artificial nipple 😂

We call it a boobie nap. I used it as a chance to chill and ignore all the crap I thought I should be doing but actually didn't matter

Yeah I felt the same. It wasn’t so easy to do with my second but I occasionally made it work when my eldest was having a nap (in a bed! Almost as though all those naps on me didn’t mean I had created a child who could never get to sleep anywhere else ever!) and it was lovely still.

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 23/02/2023 14:43

Survival instinct. Like being nap trapped. Latch trapped? Or some kind of combo of snoozing, nipple and feeding. Sneeding. Schnippling? That looks German.

As for time they could be in a pram or a cot…. yeah…. I often look back at my life and think, my one big regret was holding my babies for too long, I should have spent less time with my children 🙄

fairgame84 · 23/02/2023 15:41

@InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits
Schnippling. That's definitely what it should be called.
