How to get 18 month old to eat fruit!

My 18 mo just does not eat fruit. He likes fruit pouches but I know these are so bad for their teeth, and he will occasionally eat a banana. He tries everything but must be a texture thing that he doesn't like and just won't eat it. It makes healthy snacks so hard! Any tips?!

What fruit have you tried so far?

PurpleishDahlia · 23/02/2023 09:58

I give grated apple with porridge, blitzed blueberries /strawberries in yogurt, frozen fruit mashed with banana and yogurt and turned into ice lollies :)

I have tried all fruit to be honest, my daughter loves fruit so he is offered different fruit every day!

Thank you for these suggestions, smoothie lollies and hidden fruit will be the way to go! Luckily he does eat vegetables 🙈

My DS is 8 and still hates all fruit. He loves raw vegetables though. Some people just don't like fruit!

If he eats a wide range of veg, I wouldn't be too bothered about the fruit. There is nothing in fruit that can't be got from veg.

Jollyhoho · 23/02/2023 12:17

Yeah I'd probably agree that fruit isn't a biggie.

For snacks though - carrot buttons, cucumber sticks, chopped peppers etc can be on the go things. You can get carrot battons pre-cut so easy for grabbing, sticking in a tupperware container and off out :-)

If he's 18mths may need a bit longer before he can eat anything that crunchy? But cucumber sticks work.

Try making fruit kebabs with him, sometimes children eat what fun things they've made. You could offer it with a yogurt dip!

If he likes veg then I wouldn't worry too much. My friend's DD is 17yo and still doesn't like fruit!

As long as he's eating a wide range of veg I wouldn't worry too much. I much prefer veg & salad to fruit.

My toddler won't really eat vegetables but will eat fruit. Think vegetables are better overall so I wouldn't worry!

Follow kids eat in color

its an American Instagram account but extremely handy and gentle for getting young kids and toddlers to eat fruit and veg!
