My 10 month old has suddenly starting screaming/squealing/screeching.

I don't remember this with my DC1.

It's randomly and it's really annoying. It's so loud and kills my ears!!

Is this normal at this age and does it pass soon?

My 4.5 year old still does this now it is the most annoying sound ever!

It's normal from what I remember. Round about the same age, my son started just moaning, like a tired whiney sound even though there was nothing wrong. It used to drive me mad. It was just a little phase though thankfully!

Yep. Remember that. Excruciating isn't it? They're just finding their voice! This too shall pass! It's part of child language acquisition and passes once they actually become verbal. It's quite a short phase they go through (though it seems interminable at the time!)
