Child seat

My son is 9 and still using a car seat, I've googled what age a child should stop using one and it says at 12 years old or when the child is 135cm, whichever comes first. So I measured my sons height and he is at 4'5 so just under 135cm. What age did you stop using a car seat for your children?

Not my child but my brother in law (husband and his brother has a huge age gap). He's 14 this year, 155cm and was using a booster seat until he was 12 years old but I'm not sure how tall he was then

Mine is 8 and over 135cm but I'm not planning to stop anytime soon. Why would you when they are safer with it than without?

I'm not going to stop using a car seat either.

We live in Germany so not the same as the law here is 150cm, but I made DS1 use it until the 150cm!

We visited the UK when he was just turned 135cm and I didn't bring a seat for him thinking it would be OK as short/occasional lifts (and some people had boosters he could borrow) but in actual fact the belt was up by his neck in most cars, the lap belt was up on his tummy in all but one car, and he couldn't bend his legs at the end of the seat, meaning that he slouched forward so his legs didn't go numb and that put the belt on his tummy even more. It freaked me out actually - so I would always take a Trunki or something in future for the younger DC.

What that made me think is that between 135-150cm, some DC in some cars will be correctly proportioned for the belt to work but it will vary by car, so you'd have to take it case by case. OTOH at 150cm+ they will basically fit into any seatbelt in any car properly.
