7 Week Old Gas Attack Struggles

My 7 week DS struggled with gas a few weeks ago but it had got so much better to the point where we were only waking twice at night. Now suddenly he is screaming to be burped in the daytime and at night struggling with both burps and farts and clearly in pain. Waking up lots through the night. Any thoughts on what might have reignited the gas? And any tips on relief welcome.

Gripe water?.
Is he formula fed or breast fed?

Are you burping him regularly during a feed? Say every oz if bottle fed, and then keep him upright for half an hour after feed. Gripe water works pretty well too
