11 month old awake in night for over an hour but silent

So my 11 month old boy has been a great sleeper for past 2 months following gentle sleep training. Naps for 2 hours in the day. He sleeps usually 11-12 hours a night and we put him down awake in cot and he falls asleep himself no problem.

I randomly woke at 1am and on the monitor I could see he was awake but not making any noise. Just lying there. This happened for over an hour. He just lay awake; sometimes blinking or moving a wee bit but no crying. He was definitely awake. Why would this be? He isn’t crying so no point me going in to see him or comfort him but don’t want him lying awake in his cot for hours are night.

If he's happy enough that's fine. Lucky you!

He's probably just awake through normal sleep rhythms

My youngest used to do the same. He’ll just be dozing. So long as he’s not upset, no issues.

(I’m assuming you didn’t “ferberize” him, so have no concerns about him having just learned to be silent)

After 1.5 hours awake he now keeps falling asleep for a minute then waking and has started crying a bit.

No, we used a method where we allowed him to cry for 5 mins, then I would go into room and sit by his cot for 10 mins, if he didn’t settle I would then shush him and tell him he was safe for 10 mins and then if he still didn’t settle I would pick him up and cuddle him for a little then put back down.

it’s just so unlike him but we do think he may be teething. I just feel useless as going into him room will probably only wake him rather than make him sleep.

Could he be cold?

Room is the temperature it always is. He has been awake almost 2 hours and only in last 15 mins has he started crying a bit.

He keeps closing eyes and almost drifting then waking again and getting upset. Then settling and this is on repeat. I’m not sure what to do.

I’d go in and check nappy and for hunger then give a cuddle and see if he’ll go back down

My dc frequently is awake for an hour in the night. She narrates her life all the time (basically constantly tells a story about herself). She’s been doing it since she was 1 at least. Now 4.5. She’s never upset and going in just makes her excited so 🤷‍♀️.
