How often do you breastfeed your 15 mo?

For those still breastfeeding, how often does a 15mo need milk?!

trying to wean but actually don’t know how much milk she needs (refuses cow and formula). She’s an absolute milk monster and would rather drink thank eat, so “don’t offer, don’t refuse” hasn’t worked for us!

also, any other tips for gentle weaning, very welcome!

Both of mine were just morning and evening do twice at that age. They were in full-time childcare though so it was easy to cut down. Neither had formula or other milk. They did have cows milk on their cereal, a yoghurt a day and sometime some cheese.

I was down to just evening and morning by 15 months. (wake up and bedtime). And completely stopped soon after for 2x DC

With DC1, it was probably more just me continuing it by then as he'd have been equally happy with a bottle.

With DC2, I had to actively cut out daytime after-nap feeds at 15 months, in an attempt to then tackle nighttime weening. He probably would have carried on day time feeding if it had been his choice - he never took a bottle.

So in answer to your second half, i used distraction as much as possible. So when he woke from a nap wanting to feed, I'd play games, shove ALL the food at him, take him out in the car, etc.

We had about a month (actually, probably more) of clinging and cry though. It wasn't easy at all.

At that age mine are all still going strong. I currently have an 18 month old who has around 8 feeds during the day and 4 or 5 throughout the night.

They’ve all self weaned. Very suddenly, between 2 & 3.

A good mix of experience then! I do want to wean, but worry about not being consistent, so feel like a routine will be helpful for us

At that age every couple of hours day and night at least. At 2 I decided to night wean and then when that was done dropped to 3 times a day after meals.

ElmtreeMama · 15/02/2023 17:32

About 10 times a day and 3-5 a night 😭
Wish I had helpful tips but afraid I don't x

I cant remember at that age. But my 23 month old still does 3 times in the day. (Unless he gets hurt, then he wants it too)
And a few times through the night. He's in the bed with me, so just as he pleases. :)
