MOTHER IN LAW!

I need some advice please… Ever since I’ve had my baby (4 months ago) I’ve noticed my mother in law always passing comments on me. Day 4 after having my son she made a comment I was miserable and could crack a smile, bare in mind my son was in NICU being treated for sepsis and I was in agony after the birth, plus suffering PPA. I have just about got over that comment.
last week my partner made a comment to my mother in law on how lovely it is that the baby looks for me in a room and smiles when he catches my eye. Or just in general smiles when he finds me, I was walking into the kitchen and over heard her saying quietly “it’s only because he’s with her all the time”. I don’t know wether I should be as disrespected as I do?! How would you feel? HELP??

That’s horrible. In my experience MILs are evil jealous witches. That’s all i can say! You should make yourself heard though and not let her make these comments or else it will get worse. After 2 years of hell I finally spoke up and defended myself, suddenly the bullying calmed down.

A mumsnet "did you mean to be so rude"? Might have done the trick...let her know that you heard her.

Big thing though is DH needs to be aware and be putting her in her place. Your son does not need to grow up hearing his mother spoke of like this and your husband needs to be the one to put a stop to it.
