Doc prescribed this as my son had an allergic reaction to penicillin. We gave it to him today and he's now come up with rhis on his face? Is this another reaction? Anyone else had allergies to this drug?

If you haven't already I'd seek medical advice. I was told with my daughter if she developed any rash (for penicillin based antibiotics) to stop them and seek medical advice.

So I'd say if your son has had a allergic reaction to penicillin then I'd be getting proper advice on this.

Hope he's okay

Thank you. I called doc and she advised to just stop anti biotics all together as he's had 6 days now so hopefully that's cleared the infection. I just worry for the future if he needs anti biotics is we are going to go through this all again :(
I'm assuming the new anti biotic isn't penicillin based? Surely they wouldn't give me another penicillin based one? X

It isn't penicillin based. I have an allergy to penicillin but can tolerate clarithromycin.

Not sure what the GO will suggest next time though Flowers

Sorry I should have made myself more clear, I know Clarithromycin isn't penicillin based but I meant getting checked given he's just had a reaction to penicillin based antibiotics and now has a rash with a non penicillin based one.

Glad they have said to stop and hopefully the Clarithromycin wasn't a reaction and he can have that again in the future.

My sister is allergic to penicillin and she has unfortunately built up a tolerance to Clarithromycin as she had recurrent wisdom tooth infections and it took yeeears to convince them to extract them.

I'm allergic to penicillin and when I had Clarthromycin I knew VERY quickly that I was also allergic to that; if the rash has only come on after 6 days it might not be the antibiotics
