Is this normal? Baby being sick every day for weeks

Hi. My son (13m) has been vomiting pretty much every day for two-three weeks. He looks like he's lost weight, seems dehydrated, and I'm at a loss at what to do. First time I took him to the doctors, we were told it was tonsillitis. Took a round of antibiotics and tonsils still swollen, still being sick every night. Second round of antibiotics are almost finished and he's still being sick every night. Doctors are just telling me it's normal but I'm really concerned. Would you go back? Surely it should be better now after two rounds of antibiotics??

It might be the antibiotics making him sick but I would expect the doctors to be more concerned.

When my DD was about 2, the same thing happened to her. She got a viral infection and was sick everyday for 2 and a half weeks. I took her back to the drs many time, I even took her to a&e. She lost so much weight and I was worried sick. They kept telling me it was normal, well guess what? It was. Hard time but she got better with no problems.

That's reassuring. We should be at the end of this virus/tonsillitis really, but I think if he's still being sick I'll have to take back to the GP tomorrow, more for the dehydration and weight loss. He's always been just below 50th centile as it is, any more weight loss would worry me. :(

Yes, could be. It's a different type of antibiotic this time around but still no change. I hope they will take me seriously if I have to go back. :/

Sorry. It's me the OP replying, my username keeps changing back to my old one on my phone for some reason.

It might be worth asking them to do a stool sample in case there's an undetected bug

Hi @mumstressoutmum , has this resolved for you?
My baby's just been unwell with viral gastro at 11 months but is now coughing and being sick every day. It's been 6 days so far and we saw the gp who didn't give us any new advice but said to come back to them if it got to 10 days.
I'm so nervous about how much weight he's lost and I was just about return to work which obviously can't happen at the moment.

Hi! Sorry to hear that, your poor baby 🥺. It did resolve itself in the end, it seemed to take forever as he had nasty post-viral symptoms which seemed like the illness itself but one day just seemed completely normal again (and he has put all the weight back on with some fatty foods).
I understand you completely, but try not to worry yourself sick like I did because it'll pass...and keep on top of any fevers as that'll make them throw up more.
Plenty of water, painkillers and keeping baby cool seemed to work for us.
It's exhausting though isn't it :(
Please let me know how your little one gets on xx
