or have I done something seriously wrong with my parenting to turn normally happy child into a grumpy one who constantly needs her dum dum.

my kids are grumpy when they are tired or hungry. Ok rest of the time. Two year olds are notorious mood swingers - lurching from overexcited hysteria to lay on the floor drama. My 9 year old DD gets teary when she is tired too. DS 6 just gets unreasonable.
