Nuby Rapid cool

Right guys- I think I used the rapid cool wrong and gave my 9 week old tummy ache 😩 can anyone help me with the below questions?

  1. Do I need to fill the rapid coil flask with water straight from the kettle OR can I fill my own flask and fill the RC flask later on when feed is due? Instructions are so unclear!!
  2. My little one is on a 6oz feed, do I need to measure 6oz of water using her bottle before filling the RC flask with water? There aren’t any measurement levels on the RC flask!!
  3. (finally- sorry) my RC flask does not turn red, only amber and green. Is it the insulator flask that has a red sign? But… why would the insulator have a red sign if it’s obvious that would be too hot? Don’t get it!

  1. yes you can use your own thermos flask and then fill the rapid cool from there. Nuby even make their own thermos flask to go with it. (But use your own theirs isn't as good)

  2. there should be measurements inside the rapid cool but once you start pouring boiling water in it, it steams up so you can't see. So i do use a bottle to measure it out first.

  3. mine only ever shows amber too. But I never fill it with water from the kettle straight away because I've read you can burn the formula? So I usually wait 5 minutes or I'm filling it from my thermos flask. I've always assumed this is why it doesn't turn red.

Amazing- thanks so much for your reply! I'm not sure why the instructions are so bloody cryptic!!

No worries. The instructions are a bit puzzling! I remember I had to ask at a baby group for guidance too! A tip I got from the baby group, but up to you if you follow it. To save you having to steralise the rapid cool after each use if you're out and about:

Use the bottle to measure out the 6oz but leave 1 Oz in the bottle and add the rest to the rapid cool (this is like your hot shot from a prep machine) add your formula to the baby bottle with the 1oz still in - not the rapid cool. Once the rapid cool has cooked down the 5oz of water add it to the bottle. That way it's only ever boiling water being put in the rapid cool which is sterile. So you can use it again whilst out!

This is a brilliant tip- thank you!!!

Another train of thought... I'm sure I read in the instructions that you can only use the water in the flask within two hours of it being boiled. Have you read that Rapid Cool Guru? Grin

@JS1809
I think the 2 hours in a flask thing is NHS guidance so they would have to put that in their instructions. Personal opinion is the nuby thermos flask isn't very good so I would follow that guidance if using it. I only have the nuby rapid cool, not the flask set. I use a thermos flask and the water deffo stays hotter longer. But I won't tell you to go against NHS guidance 😉
Unless you want to get sciencey and test the temperature of the water after say 3 hours and then 4 hours etc (it's what I did) then you'll know how long you can go. The water has to be over 70° to steralise the formula.

I know people who take flasks upstairs for night feeds so water must stay hot for quite a while - I'm sure some flasks are better than others and the NHS will always be overly cautious and probably made their guidance on the worst case scenario if that makes sense?

I've bought this flask to use alongside the rapid cool and found it to be really useful as it tells you the water temperature. https://amzn.eu/d/9DN4dos

Has anyone else used the rapid cool alongside MAM bottles- used the measure on the flask only to find it’s “120ml” is a completely different amount to “120ml” in a MAM bottle which when poured in comes up to roughly 100ml- confused. Com to say the least…
