Funded nursery hours

When DS was 2, we made the decision that I’d quit my (toxic) job to look after him full time. He has been going to nursery 3 half days a week ever since, and we felt that when he was due his funded hours, I’d go back to working.

In April he’ll be entitled to his 15, and I was under the impression that I could start looking for work straight away and once employed, he’d automatically be entitled to the 30 hours.

Receptionist at the nursery said it may be the case that he won’t be eligible until the term after I start working, so September.

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Yes, it’s the term after for any changes made as far as I know. It’s a stupid system!

The next term will be April. Will you be in full time work before then?

Yes you need your eligibility code before the start of the term. Cut off dates are

31st December for spring term
31st March for summer term
31st August for autumn term

Thanks! Well, that’s crap!

So if I go back to full time employment in April, we’d have to cover the additional hours until September.

Yes you would. He would get the 15 hours but not the 30 hours. The code wouldn't be applied until the term after you began working.

Or just start the job end of march?
