Freaking out! Measles??

DS 3 months old has had a rash on his body the past couple of days, took his temperature today and he has a fever but he’s totally fine within himself and perfectly happy. I wouldn’t have even entertained the idea of measles but once I read the symptoms on NHS website I’m 90% sure my toddler had this! She had the cold symptoms, red sore gunky eyes and a mild rash on her chest. She was totally fine after a few days but she had been within close proximity to baby. She’s had her first MMR dose at 1 and will have her second when she is 3

has anyone else experienced their babies getting measles and it was all okay? I’m honestly freaking out

attached a pic of the rash. I’m waiting for a call back from the doctors

I'd probably not freak out until a doctor has diagnosed measles! And even if that's the case, it's very mild for the majority of babies

TheRookie · 08/02/2023 13:47

Could just be a viral rash, my daughter had a similar rash when she was small. It's very common for.kids to get rashes and measles isn't very common these days!

My DS had a rash like this, and was just a common viral rash (diagnosed by our GP). Hope you get some reassurance from the GP and that your DS feels better soon.

That just looks like a typical and normal viral rash to me - not medically qualified, if worried phone 111 etc

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/02/2023 13:52

Looks viral to me and not how I remember my measles rash to be which was more under the skin.

BadGranny · 08/02/2023 13:58

Look for Koplick spots - white spots on tonsils.

bakewellbride · 08/02/2023 14:01

Do get it checked out but my dd had a viral rash which cleared up harmlessly on its own and it looked just like that

Why is this always the answer 'phone 111 if worried '... It's lunchtime on a Thursday, it's GP time not out of hours. Bizarre.

My GP shuts at 11 on a Thursday. It's Wednesday though, so I'd be ok

It does look like a viral rash op

antipodeancanary · 08/02/2023 14:08

But also, if it is measles, why would you freak out? The chances of it being anything other than an itchy inconvenience for a few days are really small.

SassyPants87 · 08/02/2023 14:29

Thank you everyone, still waiting for gp to call us. I’m really hoping it is viral, like I said I wouldn’t have even entertained measles had my toddler displayed symptoms and we have out some outbreaks in our city

@antipodeancanary do you know how serious measles can be for vulnerable people and babies? Babies also don’t get MMR vaccine until 1 years old so they are at particular risk. Please don’t tell me you are an anti vaxxer as your comment about just an itch is so ill informed

Any updates? It looks very similar to a viral rush that my daughter had a month ago.

I understand your worry, measles can be extremely dangerous for small babies. Becouse of the anti vac. people, I had to be terrified of any sorts of rush till she got her 12 month vaccines!

chillichutneysarnie · 08/02/2023 15:42

Yes interested for an update as my son has the same right now

Oh man I was sure it was Thursday. Raging!!!

legalseagull · 08/02/2023 16:22

Looks like a normal viral rash to me.

Haha. The only reason I know it's Wednesday is because I thought it was Thursday this morning too and was very disappointed 😂

SassyPants87 · 08/02/2023 17:36

So update! It does look like a viral rash HOWEVER doc thinks that toddler could have had measles giving all the similar symptoms she had but I guess we will just never know. Fortunately she’s had her first MMR dose so would have had some protection but doc thinks that baby’s rash is most likely viral and to keep an eye on it

thank you to everyone who responded as I literally just went into total panicked mum mode!
