9 month old how many breast feeds do they have?

Hi, my son is doing some settling in hours at nursery. At 9 months he's still prioritising breast milk over solids (which he mostly throws on the floor).
Nursery asked me how many milk feeds he has a day and I couldn't answer the question... It's just throughout the day! I couldn't really read their reaction so I'm wondering if this is normal or whether I should have made more progress by now of weaning him off the boob? Or do others have set times of when they breastfeed? Honestly feeling clueless now and have lost my confidence in knowing what I'm doing!

That's a difficult question. It would vary a lot baby to baby.

I think at 9 months I was breastfeeding first thing in the morning, last thing at night and then probably before naps. So maybe 4 feeds a day?

But if they are bottle feeding it will probably be a different rhythm.

It's on demand so you can't answer that question.

I'm surprised they've even asked. If it's on a form just put N/A.

Will you be pumping and providing milk or will they be using formula?

When my DD1 started at 10 months I pumped for about 6 weeks (until my supply dipped due to pregnancy) and they gave her milk in line with their routines. She took it from both cups and bottles despite always refusing a bottle at home.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure that out due to allergies etc. The closer it's getting to others looking after him the more paranoid I'm getting that he's going to be an issue, if I've somehow done something wrong. We don't really have a schedule, but he'll follow theirs I suppose. I need to stop worrying really!

My 9mo DD has about 4-5 feeds a day, then 23,379 overnight 😄 When my parents look after her all day and I’m at work (2 days per week, literally started last week) she refuses to take expressed milk or formula from them! But she has 3 meals a day and water and she’s yet to starve to death.

I think if you pack enough milk to cover all bases, they can feed him with the other babies - then if he’s upset or hungry, they can simply give him more. I agree it’s weird they asked - how long is a piece of string?!

Also he might start eating more solids if the other babies are, I hear babies copy eachother in nursery settings!

My DD1 was bottle fed but from about five months she refused to take a bottle from anyone but me or DH. This worried me when she started nursery at nine months as she was still having a midday bottle at home, but she did just fine on food and water at nursery.

DD2 is currently six months, ebf, and refuses bottles so unless something changes she's going to have to go without when she starts too.

I stopped at 8 months but at that point it was about 4/5 a day - after meals (not before), upon waking and before bed.

My little one is just 10 months. Started nursery couple weeks ago, 3 days.
He feeds morning and bedtime. At nursery he will usually have a cup of formula (doesn't have this at home). On days at home he will have a breastfeed before naps. That's it. On rare occasion he's up at night he will have a feed for comfort.
He's a good eater on 3 meals a day (including yoghurt and cheese) and drinks water from a sippy cup too.

I did a lot of googling about this as I worried he wasn't getting enough milk.

DD when she started childcare at 12 months was bf a gazillion times a day (and night). For whatever reason i couldn't express, so she just did without during the day. She wasn't best pleased, but managed! She wasn't eating much in the way of solids then, but didn't starve at childcare.

Thanks all. Feeling more relaxed now

I think DS was on 4 feeds. Was weaned off daytime at 10.5/11mo. Fully weaned at 12.5mo.
