Is it possible that a 14 month old doesn't need a nap during the day anymore?

My baby had been resisting day time naps for a little while now. Its 50/50 whether he goes to sleep, and on the days he does nap it will then take him about an hour to fall asleep at bedtime.

An example of a day with a nap would be.. wakes up at 8am..I try to get him to sleep 5 hours later at 1ish, he will have been showing some signs of tiredness. He will by some miracle fall asleep for about 1.5 hours.. I then put him to bed 5 hours later and it will take about an hour of rocking or breastfeeding to get him to sleep.

Without a nap would be.. wakes up at 8am.. I try to get him to sleep 5 hours later at 1ish but he will resist (I always try breastfeeding and rocking in the house, and then take him out in the buggy after) and I will eventually stop trying. He's had some quiet time though and seems less tired but by 4pm is getting ratty. I put him to bed at 6pm and he falls asleep quickly.

I don't think it's good for them not to have a nap at this age.

My dd dropped her naps at 15 months. Does he sleep in the car ?

I’d say it’s unlikely

my youngest did stop at 18m though. She did everything earlier to mimic her sister who is 1 year old set.

Quite possible, one of mine cut down heaps and totally had dropped all daytime naps by 17 months. Slept 13hours at night though, never ever woke up, no matter what was going on in the house

My DD dropped off napping consistently at around 2 years old but I have a friend who said her DD stopped around 12 months old.

You know your child best… id say just do what works for them and for you. That might mean some days with a nap and others not.

Does he sleep from 6pm-8am straight through?

Arguelikeagrownup · 04/02/2023 20:08

Mine stopped napping at 11 months, but I always factored quiet time into the day so she would if she needed.

Mine stopped consistently napping too around that age. Slept like a log from 7pm to 7.30am. Might have a nap every three days or so. I offer it, but don’t push it. At nursery it’s the same, might have a nap 2 times a week or so.

DS was in a nursery and wouldn't nap at that age, he did go straight off in the car home though at about 4:30pm

Both of mine dropped naps at about this age, apart from the odd day here and there or in the car.

As pp said, when tired after lunch we had some consistently structured quiet time - a story, lights dimmed, quiet music on and a snuggle on the sofa.
