Anyone else's 8yo going on 14?!

DD1 has always been "good" in the sense of quiet, does her homework etc. But also stubborn as anything!

She is just 8 and in the last month has developed a real attitude. I am sure it is some development thing about establishing independence and am trying to be calm, loving, and consistent.... but argh! It's like having a mini teen!

Anyone find the same?

I’m a primary school teacher and this is VERY common
it seems to be getting earlier, but that doesn’t help you! Hormones will have a big impact too, maybe try making a little note if there’s certain times of day or times of the month she’s more irritable to help you know when to avoid conflict unnecessarily

we’ve recommended the following to help reduce tensions:
1:1 time with mum/dad doing something of her choice
family movie night with her chosen film and snacks
allowing a bit more independence where safe and appropriate (choosing groceries, clothes etc)

sending you lots of hugs - it’s hard but us mums know everything is a phase, you got this xxx

Hi @GMumma thank you! Really appreciate this. Yes it does feel hormonal but also like she doesn't have the maturity yet to handle. Lots of sudden tears out of nowhere etc

Today she was super after swimming, helping her little sister in the showers, but we've then had an "it's so UNFAIR" strop... because she was asked to do her maths homework, consisting of doing a TTRS session on 4x table, which she can do in about 3 mins!!
