According to my 9 year old backed up with a similar story from the 6 year old who has senco issues was being mischievous in todays assembly by fiddling with his water bottle . He (according to the kids ) was spoken to a few times and then was taken to the front of the hall by the deputy headteacher made to sit next to her and face the wall.

Its the facing the wall bit that doesn't sit well with me ? Thoughts please

If only there were always lots of adults in assembly. I spent many years with two adults taking singing assembly, me on piano and someone at the front. I wouldn’t put a child facing the wall but I don’t think most parents who would complain would be happy at their child being asked to move to sit next to a teacher either. And sometimes you need to move a child who is hurting others.

Who'd be a teacher? I despair.

I'd be unhappy with that. It's too much like a public humiliation, even if it wasn't intended that way. It can feel very vulnerable having everyone behind and looking where you can't see them.

If he doesn't want public humiliation, he shouldn't indulge in repeated public misbehaviour. Simples.

If he doesn't like it, he needs to learn to do as he is told then, doesn't it. It isn't supposed to be fun.

What is your issue with this OP?

Because the next thread would say "AIBU, teacher confiscated water bottle, child almost died of dehydration at assembly "

And there would be a photo in the local paper of the half dead child and his loving mother looking down sorrowfully at him, seemingly bewailing how a cruel cruel world made him face a wall without H2O.
