Currently have a three day old baby who is on Kendamil formula - today I’ve noticed a lot of wind and also this is his poo… is this normal?! Looks very chunky😫

Yes, looks “normal”! Congratulations

Strawberriesandcreammm · 23/01/2023 12:03

I’ve been told this isn’t normal and awaiting a doctors opinion😫

does any formula feeding Mumma know if it’s normal that some formula isn’t dissolved like the smallest little flecks? Worried I’m making the bottle up wrong

Pretty sure it’s normal for it to be seedy in the early days.
I can’t really see anything in that picture about the formula but how are you making it up? If you’re following the instructions on the box you can’t really go wrong!

Strawberriesandcreammm · 23/01/2023 12:21

I thought that but they said because of how seedy it is and mucus they need a paediatrician to see me :-( hope all will be okay - and yes following the formula on the tin but even after shaking it’s leaving little flecks that aren’t dissolving :-( hope this photos clearer is little flecks

Ah I see what you mean now.
I’ve never noticed that but I’ve never used kendamil so hopefully someone who has can advise on that.

The poo doesn’t look particularly mucousy to me but if you’re being referred to a paediatrician at least they can tell you for definite, but I’d try not to worry in the mean time. Their poo changes so much in that first week it could be totally different tomorrow

Strawberriesandcreammm · 23/01/2023 12:32

I’m quite concerned I’m worried that me making the bottles has made him a little sick or I’m not doing it right but I’m not quite sure how else I’m supposed to prep the bottles with formula😭

looks normal to me

I use Kendamil from birth - I literally put for example 4 scoops on, fill to 4oz with boiling water and swirl the bottle vigorously to dissolve the lumps and leave to cool. You can't really get it wrong :)

Strawberriesandcreammm · 23/01/2023 12:38

I’m doing the 90mls with 3 scoops into boiling water shaking vigorously for 10/15minutes and leaving to cool for 30 to room temp and still these little lumps aren’t leaving the bottle they’re like tiny tiny flecks do you see them in yours or?

I use kendamil and yes those little flecks are fine, as long as you haven't got clumps left in the bottom of the bottle the flecks aren't an issue at all. You also really don't need to be shaking for 10-15 mins!! I maybe do 20-30 seconds of 'good' shaking with hot water and that's plenty to get it to dissolve. Congratulations on your baby and I hope the doctor is able to help put your mind at ease 💐

ttcnumber2x · 23/01/2023 16:23

I'd try stirring instead of shaking as shaking can add lots of air bubbles and give them wind

Newborn poo is very different to any other poo and remember they've never had to digest milk until 3 days ago but good to get a second opinion

I’m sorry to say that is wrong. You need to pour 4oz of water and then add the powder otherwise you won’t be getting enough liquid and the ratio is wrong.

Strawberriesandcreammm · 23/01/2023 17:11

I’ve spoken to a paeds doctor who said baby’s poo looks like ‘high in concentrate.’ They initially thought I was making the bottles wrong I.e water to powder ratio but after telling them how I do it they said it’s correct… they want me to retry pre-made formula to see if it will go back to normal.

could it be I’m not shaking if long enough or perhaps it’s too rich for him?
