Son's obsession with school friend.

My son is in year 1. He has a group of friends ( 5 of them in total ) There's one, I'll call him " Oliver "

He seems to be quite popular. My son is constantly going on about him, it's like he's obsessed.

It's Oliver this, Oliver that. Oliver is the fastest runner, best speller, and knows everything apparently! Quite frankly I'm sick of hearing about him.

This Oliver appears to be very grown up for his age and a lot different to my son.

Is this normal behaviour and is it likely to pass? Has anyone else had experience of this?

Very normal.

You sound jealous of Oliver 😉

Sounds like it’s his best friend- I don’t see what the worry is

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

I don't think Oliver is that keen on my son tbh. They are in the same group of friends but Oliver is rather close to another boy in that group.

I've also seen him ignoring my boy on a few occasions before and after school.

This is just normal, not an issue, and a conversation to enjoy and develop with your son.

baxtersm · 22/01/2023 11:47

Oliver's probably just one of the 'cool' kids and your son is looking up to him. Nothing to worry about at that age I don't think.

i don't understand the problem it seems really normal

My DD did this at pre school. She was obsessed with one child. I was sick to death of hearing her name. With her I realised that all her friends up till that point had been boys so she was so excited to have a girl to play with!

Wibbly1008 · 22/01/2023 20:06

It will pass. Just change the subject when Oliver gets too much
