Worry

My baby is 5.5 months old, not starting weaning for another couple of weeks but I've noticed my baby doesn't put toys to her mouth/isn't really interested in our food. I am abit worried that by now other babies seem to be putting everything they can to their mouth to chew and worried that we are going to have issues when weaning.

We are sitting her in the high chair at the table when we eat and letting her watch us put food to our mouth along with giving her a baby spoon to play with. Tonight I put a piece of cucumber on her high chair to see if she would pick it up but she wasn't the slightest bit interested Does anyone else have experience of this?

Totally fine and normal. "Around 6 months" for weaning can be 5.5 months or closer to 7 months. Are they otherwise healthy: gaining weight, wet and spiked nappies, meeting milestones? If so I wouldn't worry, but if you have other concerns then have a chat with the h although visitor. Do you have any infant feeding groups you could go to? We have something called HENRY locally which covers weaning as well as breast and bottle feeding - they have drop-ins and various sessions... maybe you have something similar?

Soiled nappies, not spiked nappies!

Yes everything else is fine, she feeds well generally, lots of dirty and wet nappies. I would say her development is fine - very alert and interactive. Can see her watching and learning every day which is great, it's just that she doesn't seem to be putting things in her mouth or anywhere near ready to wean. I hadn't really considered her being ready to wean closer to 7 months and had the 6 month mark stuck in my head - think I need to relax about it abit (so difficult to not compare). I'm taking her to be weighed on Tuesday at the clinic so will ask about any support from the feeding team or similar. Thank you!
