When did your broodiness stop?

I have a son, he's 13 months. When he was born I was like there's Noway I'll want more than one child. Fast forward to now, the broodiness is killing me.

I was just wondering if this is just going to be an ongoing feeling forever.
How long did your broodiness last? Does it just come back after having another baby?

Mine has just stopped, my two ate late teens!! I really wanted a 3rd but now wouldn't want the age gap!

Chimna · 21/01/2023 19:26

When my eldest got out of nappies at 3 and life became much easier the broodiness stopped. Then I fell pregnant 🤦🏼‍♀️ DD is now 19 months and I am so broody! But I would like another now. I am hoping if I do have a DC3 that it will stop once they are out of nappies again.

PuttingDownRoots · 21/01/2023 19:34

Had twenty months between my two. Was really fancying another... until I realised DD2 would be at school before a third was born. It was a gap that was too big for us as we were enjoying doing things you couldn't do with a baby (skiing, water sports, and similar activities).
DH got the snip a year later.

My eldest is 4 and my youngest is 20 months. I had really hoped my broodiness would have stopped by now. I'm desperate for a 3rd child but.... We can't afford one, house isn't big enough, can't really afford another mat leave and DH isn't all that keen on being out numbered by kids. Plus I'm in my late 30's and I just can't face being awake all night now that I have two good sleepers. I'm just hoping it fades over the next few months/years.

ShesThunderstorms · 21/01/2023 20:02

The minute I had my second baby. It was like a switch that had been turned off. She's 2 and a bit now and I'm still very firmly in the never ever again camp.

ShitShoweringClouds · 21/01/2023 20:11

Mine didn't stop until I got a dog!

BigYellowElephant · 21/01/2023 20:13

I'm single with 3 kids and so so so broody. If I won the lottery first thing I'd do is get pregnant by any means necessary. My youngest is nearly 2 hoping I don't feel like this forever cos I defo can't have more!

crochetcrazy1978 · 21/01/2023 20:14

I'm in my mid 40's now and I've been broody on and off over the years. Had my youngest aged 31. It just faded off after a while. Hit me badly early 40's and even tried for another for a while but nothing happened and now I'm relieved it didn't. Suspect I had a sense of 'this is the last chance now'

Ditto! 🤣

Never really had any to be honest

Fedupmum21 · 21/01/2023 20:17

Just had my third three weeks ago, my second premature baby, and I can categorically say I haven’t an ounce of broodiness left in me! After my second I still thought maybe in a few years, but this time round I know I am 100% done. People kept telling me I’d “know when I was done having babies” and now I totally get it!

Highfivemum · 21/01/2023 20:18

After my 5th. But then I had another one !! Now with 6 DC I am happy with my lot.

RandomMess · 21/01/2023 20:20

When I hit my late 40s and I had 3 teens and an adult child.

We really miss having young children but searing hormonal broodiness disappeared as I hit peri-menopause. I'm too knackered!

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 21/01/2023 20:21

When dc2 was about 5/6 months. I realised that the idea of doing pregnancy and the tiny baby stage again filled me with dread. I really don’t do pregnancy well.

Same! I don't really understand broodiness if I'm honest. Because I never had it.

Totally! Late 30s/early 40s, Last Chance Saloonitis kicks in. Not at all nice. I did have my last at 42, but the broodiness was desperate, not at all like the ‘warm and fluffy ovaries beating to the rhythm of love’ broodiness I’d felt in my mid 20s. By late 30s, it was more like ‘Quick! Before my eggs desiccate and are condemned to menopausal hell! Baby! Now!’

Broodiness eventually left the building around 43/44. A non sleeping baby/toddler helped turn the remainder of my eggs to ash! 😁

Never started... not one urge.

Show me a puppy though 😍

Needmorelego · 21/01/2023 20:23

I started being broody at around age 14. Had my one and only at age 33. Age 47 now and am still broody.

I’m still waiting for this feeling… currently pregnant with number 4 but we’re out of bedrooms after this one so I’m saying I’m done 😂

Matilda1981 · 21/01/2023 20:25

After I’d had my 4th!! As soon as I’d given birth I thought thank f* I don’t have to go through that again!! Never had that feeling with the previous 3 births!!

Mylife2099 · 21/01/2023 20:32

Always wanted four since I was a teenager so was broody after 1st, 2nd and 3rd - number 4 arrived and that was it - dream achieved.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/01/2023 20:34

I think we had exactly this question yesterday or the day before.

For me it stopped when I was 41 and had 2 children, one of whom was only a very young baby. Immediately after he was born I had a surge of euphoria, and "I desperately want another baby" but luckily it wore off within a couple of months.

Broodiness often increases as you get older - your hormones are screaming out that you are about to start dumping eggs and losing the ability to conceive.

I don't know why but Facebook Reels keeps giving me blogs from enormous families in the US. I always scroll past. I have no patience whatsoever with people who have large families these days.

EllieRosesMammy · 21/01/2023 20:38

I thought mine would of stopped after I had my 2nd...but I gave birth to my 3rd 3 weeks ago😂 and whilst pregnant with her I swore blind that I was 100% done with it all, yet in the back of my mind I know ill probably end up having a 4th🤦‍♀️

Some people spend their life saying "I want loads of kids", have one and then decide they're absolutely done. Others say theyd only ever want one or two kids and end up having six. I say just roll with it, if you really want another baby and the timing is right then go for it!

IfOnlyTheyMeantIt · 21/01/2023 20:45

It never did.

Can't wait to be a grandma!

rosegoldivy · 21/01/2023 20:46

When my suprise second baby turned out to be twins and they told me the chance of twins again was 1 in 5.

Got my tube tied when the twins arrived.

God knows I love the twins but I'd rather lose an eyeball than have another set
