Hi I'm a mum to three incredibly amazing children. My eldest is 12 middle 8 youngest 4, last year was an awful year for us.. my eldest went into hospital with encephalitis my middle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my husband suffered a heart attack at the age of 30. My husband is out of work leaving me being the provider and we are living off my paycheck.. we booked our holiday to Florida last year and still paying off the remainder plus spending money. We are suffering this month but bills are paid and Florida is being paid off we have surplus for sons bus tickets to school and food etc but this month we are super tight on money my 12 year old doesn't understand this his friends have invited him to a trampoline park between entry food drink and petrol it'll cost £30+ which I haven't got he doesn't understand this I've told him he will have to sit this one out and go the next time when we are back on our feet but he's gone to my dad (his grandad) and asked him for money (huge hit in my pride) I'm finding it really difficult to talk to my eldest about our money situation I don't want him to know that we are struggling but want him to understand that we are making sacrifices for our Florida trip (which isn't cheap) and until hubby is back in work we can't just give out money like we used to. Sorry for the long post and appreciate any advice as I'm at a loss

Honestly if he's just going to go to random relatives and ask them for money he's old enough for a finance lesson where you sit down with him and show him where the money is going out, what's coming in, and how you budget, and maybe he should be earning his pocket money by doing chores (if he isn't already) and saving it for these sorts of days out. You also need to speak to granddad and make it clear that he isn't to give DS money if you've said no because it's undermining you and the lesson that DS needs to earn money for big fancy day trips.
