Formula feeding? Help please!

We have started transitioning our little one from expressed breast milk to formula as I am having problems with my supply.

DS was premature and had problems suckling so has been bottle fed my expressed breast milk most of his life. When we were in hospital he was tube fed cow & gate as that’s all the hospital had and has since been topped up with cow & gate. We have been slowly transitioning to full bottles of this and 2 days ago made the transition to full formula.

Since, DS has been really uncomfortable during and after feeds, squirmy, straining and a bit constipated. His stools have been browner than usual. Contacted the HV but she was useless.

Please can you tell me from your own experiences if this is normal when going onto formula and if I should wait a few days? Or if I should try another formula? Or book a docs appointment for advice? Thanks!

You could try asking a private dietitian. Some don't have long waiting lists. GP is much less likely to know the answer

I’m no expert but this doesn’t sound unusual, I think formula does make more solid poos. Can you cycle his legs at each nappy to try and help him with his digestion? I think there are forms of baby massage on the belly that can help too? Hopefully more people will jump in with more advice because my memory is vague now!

It's normal to take a few days for baby tummy to adjust to new formula, also FF babies are often constipated (mine is!)
