Breastfeeding, how to wean off?

Hi, my baby is nearly two years old now and still breastfeeding. They have a great appetite & nutritious diet, but still have comfort boob. I'd like to start weaning off it now as it's getting exhausting & occasionally painful. Any tips on how to go about this?

Do they have comfort feeds during the night or day???? I went cold turkey with my DD, she was 16 months. I found it was the only effective thing that helped. You need to replace the comfort, so with a cuddly toy, a teddy bear or even just more cuddles during the day. At night, give them a bottle or glass of milk. There will be a lot of crying, they will need a lot of cuddles. For me, within 3/4 days she was completely weaned. You stop giving it, they know they're not getting it anymore.

I bought a story book called "Booby Moon" and read it to my daughter for a few weeks. The concept is the magic takes the milk back up to the moon. Then I put plasters on my nipples so she couldn't get to them. She was pretty miffed but got over it surprisingly quickly!

I did it very gradually over 3 months but it was relatively pain free, probably had 5 mins max crying on the last week when I went cold turkey. Initially I cut it down to not offering but not refusing, then I knew he would only ask for it at nap times so when he was due a nap I would take him for a walk so he fell asleep in the pram. On the penultimate week I'd get him ready for bed then take him for a drive so he would fall asleep in the car. The last week I just cuddled him to sleep but offered him water every time he asked for the boob. I waited till he was quite tired before taking him to bed so he ended up falling asleep fairly quickly
