What do you do when one's sick?

Just out of curiosity really. If one of your younger children are sick and can't go to school, how do you get your other children to school? This happened to me this morning and for the first time I couldn't get through to my mum for help until the last minute. I'm not sure what I would of done if she hadn't of called me back. For context I don't drive and the school is about a half an hour walk. My middle daughter was born with an illness that is still undiagnosed. It means she has episodes of really bad headaches and vomiting regularly and unexpectedly. What does everybody else do?

Do you have a partner?
A friend who goes nearby your house to the same school?
How old are the bigger ones? Do you have to walk them or could they walk alone? Could you put them in a taxi?
