Is it normal for my 6 month to breastfeed every hour?

My 6 month old has always been a frequent feeder/snacker but in the last 3-4 weeks he’s been asking to breastfeed every hour or 1.5 hours absolute max. He used to go roughly 2 hours before.

Is this normal? Anyone else’s LO’s the same?

Have you started weaning? I didn't start until baby was 7 months and once we did she temporarily asked for milk much more frequently. Mine was snacker too and it wasn't unusual to feed up to 18 times a day until about 1. She still has milk on demand now at 18m about 4 times a day.

@Flittingaboutagain Yes we’ve started weaning but only recently and he’s not taking much yet! Do you know why weaning might mean they ask more frequently?

My 6 month old is usually happy 2-4 hours after a feed. Usually about 3 hours and then she starts to get grumpy. She's breastfed.

We have recently started weaning her though - a week or so prior to that, she was waking up hungry at nighttime so much more than normal. I think it was every hour/1.5 hrs for some nights. She now eats with us at dinner and about a third of the time sleeps right through to morning. Usually wakes for a feed before midnight, maybe will wake one more time.

Have you started weaning yet? Is he eating much/ liking it?

Sounds like a growth spurt or a virus and he's feeding for comfort.

Better stock up on the next size clothes!

@EmptyWineGlass Yes we’ve started weaning but he’s not a fan so is hardly taking anything at the moment

@LionMama Maybe he'll find something he really likes, start to eat a bit more and then sleep for longer? Ours loves her baby rice with breastmilk, but I expect you've tried that already. Good luck, it sounds like you're doing a great job regardless xx

Huge growth spurt at 6 months and if he's not eating he's going to want more milk.
With solids always try before BF, so they're hungry, try and get a little schedule going of when to offer BF and when to offer solids so you get some structure to their day. Keep persevering with the solids, and hopefully he will find something he likes that fills him up a bit.
Avocado is a great first food, both of mine went crazy for it!
